flooring and painting FAQ

If you have any questions to add to our flooring and painting FAQ page
just send us a text or email!

In what order should we do the romodeling work?

Drywall installation or repair, and texture.

Paint walls, ceilings, and door casings.

Tile flooring, showers, and backsplashes.

Install flooring, sand and finish if required.

Install, caulk, and paint floor trim, touch up wall paint if needed.

What is the best flooring for an active household?

Luxury Vinyl Plank is a great option for an active houhold. Just don't get the cheapest of the cheap, and make sure your
installer does the prep work necessary to get the slab or subfloor within the manufacturers flatness tollerance. Glue down vinyl plank is even more durable than the click lock version, often used as commercial flooring!

Do flooring warranties really matter?

In our opinion, yes and no. The warranty gives you some idea of how well the product is made, but if you ever need to make a claim, the fine print will likely get the flooring manufacturer out of it.

Also, the warranty typically doesn't cover the labor to replace your floors.

What is the best finish for hardwood floors?

There are a lot of things to consider but overall, water based urethane such as Bona Mega One is a great option. It dries fast and is durable. Bona Traffic HD is a nice upgrade, it is more durable than the Mega One but not necessarily anything that you would notice. Basically, if you slide heavy furniture across the floor it's probably going to scratch.

The fact that it dries fast makes future repairs and touch ups a lot easier to deal with compared to oil based urethane.

However, oil based clear coats (urethane), gives you a richness and warmth that is difficult to achieve with other finishes.

Is Rubio Monocoat a good hardwood floor finish?

Yes! Rubio is a great finish option. It saves time because it is just one coat and is available in many colors. It's a durable finish but can also be coated over with certain waxes to make it hold up even better.

How to find a flooring or painting contractor near me?

If you prefer a large company with a retail store they usually come up at the top of Google searches.

If you are looking for a small business go two or three pages deep on the search results.

Whenever possible get at least 2 estimates from businesses that are recommended by friends, family, or coworkers that you think have good judgement.

Are you licensed and insured?

No license is available for flooring and painting but we are fully insured.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, estimates from us are at no cost. We also pride ourselves in being very thorough so that there are limited or no surprise extras.

What is your service area?

Our main focus is Austin Texas and all of the surrounding communities, but we do go farther when needed. Some home owners and contractors have us travel to do flooring and painting jobs in other areas because they love the service and quality that we provide. These areas include, but are not limited to; San Marcos Tx, Wimberly Tx, New Braunfels Tx, and more.

What is the flooring installation process like?

The main parts are floor prep to remove any previous floor coverings and get the slab or subfloor within the flooring manufacturers flatness tolerance. Also floor trim such as baseboards or quarter round is removed, if applicable. Then we install the flooring and reinstall the baseboards and or quarter round, or install new. The final step is painting the floor trim and walking the job with the customer to ensure that complete satisfaction was achieved.

What house painting services do you offer?

We paint walls, ceilings, trim, and cabinets as far as interior painting. We offer full exterior painting as well but not for large homes where scaffolding etc is required.

What brands of paint do you use?

We like Behr and Sherwin-Williams paint and we use their product lines that are closes to their top quality paints. Low quality paint can require several coats to achieve good coverage, which costs more labor, and we don't find that the top level paints that "just came out" are worth the extra expense.

What sheen level of paint do you recommend?

In the end it comes down to personal preference but we like flat paint for ceilings, eggshell for walls, and satin for trim. Using higher sheen levels will usually show more imperfections, but it just depends on the look you're going for.
